The foundation stone for the new hard coal power plant of RWE Power was laid today in Hamm. German Federal Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel and the State Premier of North Rhine-Westphalia, Dr. Juergen Ruettgers, joined Dr. Juergen Grossmann, the CEO of RWE, Dr. Johannes Lambertz, CEO of RWE Power and Manfred Huelsmann representing the power generation joint venture, the so-called GEKKO Group, and RWE’s Central Works Council Chairman Guenter Reppien at the ceremonial event.

Site decision has been made: RWE plans to build a power plant in Huerth featuring coal gasification and CO2 capture
The RWE project to build a large-scale, high-tech power plant with integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC), plus CO2 capture, transportation and storage (CCS), is an important milestone for the Group. The new power plant, which will be fuelled by local lignite resources, is to be constructed on the Goldenbergwerk site in Huerth near Cologne. As the foundation stone was ceremonially laid today for the hard-coal-fired power plant in Hamm, Dr. Juergen Grossmann, CEO of RWE AG, explained: “We will do everything in our power to ensure this innovative project is now swiftly expedited. With our expertise in clean power technologies, we want to show the energy to lead in this field.“

RWE Innogy convenes Advisory Board
Founded at the beginning of this year, RWE Innogy GmbH is the company for renewables within RWE Group. In future, RWE Innogy will enjoy support from the work of an advisory board. The nine-member forum has the task of providing strategic and specialist advice to RWE Innogy's management on all aspects of renewable energy sources.

Third power auction closed
56 companies took part in the third power auction held by RWE this year. They purchased the complete lot of nearly 400 MW power on offer.

RWE confirms its 2008 forecast: Recurrent net income to increase by more than 10%
The RWE Group’s earnings prospects for 2008 remain positive. The figures for the first half of the year do not yet fully reflect this. Based on the favourable overall organic earnings perspective, RWE confirms its forecast of increasing recurrent net income for the fiscal year by more than 10 percent. The company has managed to stop customer losses in its German electricity supply business.
